Café Executive Officer (C.E.O) Job Description

Saxbys Coffee is looking for outgoing, detail-oriented, and disciplined hospitality professionals to join our Café Executive Officer Development Program.  As a member of our management team, you’ll be essential in creating café culture and developing your team. You will ensure that your Saxbys café is an integral part of its surrounding community. You will help your team members make connections with the guests they see every day and also lead café operations, staffing, guest engagement, product quality, financial performance and team development.

 

C.E.O Competencies:

Culture

  • Create a culture in your café that embodies Saxbys Mission Statement, Make Life Better, and Core Values in all daily activities.
  • Develop relationships to ensure that your Saxbys café is an integral part of the local community and exemplifies that we are a community
     serving our community
  • Identify and develop brand ambassadors on your team that can contribute creatively to your café (chalkboard signs, tip jars, etc)
  • Anticipate guest needs and endeavor to exceed expectations. Mitigate guest feedback and always respond in good taste

 

Operations

  • Abide by Saxbys standard operating procedures and ensure that all of your team members follow suit
  • Identify opportunities and institute key performance indicators to meet and exceed sales goals, and use operational tools to monitor costs
     to increase profitability
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure adherence to applicable wage and hour laws for nonexempt partners and minors
  • Come up with quick, creative solutions to operational issues as they occur

 

Team Development

  • Ascertain the training needs and offer appropriate coaching and direction to the team while providing regular feedback and performance appraisals
  • Monitor and manage café staffing levels to achieve and maintain the operational requirements while meeting or exceeding labor goals
  • Communicate clearly, accurately and discretely with team members, Saxbys HQ, and peers, both verbally and in writing
  • Recruit and continually develop Team Members who will be consummate brand ambassadors
  • Be well versed in effective conflict resolution techniques

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in hospitality is required; hospitality leadership is desired
  • College degree is not required but desired

  • Ability to be a jack of all trades, should be able to pick up on new concepts quickly and adeptly
  • A quarterback and a cheerleader – Must be able to follow the playbook with precision, call a few audibles when necessary and also be the loudest voice in the room when advocating for Saxbys and for the café

  • Able to stand, walk and smile for extended periods of time

Student cafe Executive (S.C.E.O.) officer

 

As the S.C.E.O of a Saxbys university café for six-months, you will gain invaluable experience operating a café, developing a team, becoming a community leader, and an expert in business fundamentals. You will have the full support and resources of the Saxbys team, however you will have unparalleled ownership of the entrepreneurial process of operating this business.

 

Please note this position may have requirements regarding student majors depending on location.

 

Key Objectives:

  • Further ingrain the Saxbys Culture, servant leadership, and hospitality within cafe operations
  • Drive cafe financial performance through increased sales and improved cost management
  • Continuously evaluate and identify ways of optimizing operational standards and practices with an eye towards scale and growth
  • Meet or exceed cafe performance goals as set by Saxbys Leadership on an ongoing basis

 

Responsibilities:

Financial Management:  Students are educated to master the details that impact a business’ Profit & Loss statement. Via ELP curriculum, Student C.E.O.s:

  • Learn and apply best practices to drive profitability
  • Work with the company’s VP of Finance to set a budget and target goals for each financial period
  • Create sales forecasts to project— and meet—business demand, as reflected in the management of inventory and team schedule
  • Present a monthly P&L statement to the Saxbys executive team and elaborate on the context behind the data

 

Team Development:  Student C.E.O.s actively lead a team of over 25 of their peers; each C.E.O. is responsible for keeping the team engaged with the Saxbys mission and culture, and coaching individual team members for personal + professional growth. Via ELP curriculum, Student C.E.O.s:

 

  • Learn HR skills such as recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and coaching team members
  • Conduct weekly Team Lead meetings and monthly One-on-One meetings with each team member to work on individual goal-setting
  • Apply human development concepts to keep the team engaged and growing

Community Leadership:  Servant leadership, and building a business that serves as a community cornerstone, is an integral learning objective in ELP. Within the ELP model, this is achieved through:

  • Instilling and maintaining a culture of hospitality and servant leadership
  • Creating locally-driven marketing plans that engage the community
  • Utilizing the café platform to advance community effort:
    • Philanthropy events and
    • Partnerships with local entrepreneurs and creators
  • Lift Fund - a percentage of the café’s quarterly revenue is allocated—at the student team’s discretion—to make an impact on local initiatives
